Abstract: Sāṅkhya and Yoga are two deeply interrelated systems within the Indian philosophical tradition. While Sāṅkhya analyzes the origin of the material world, the dualism of Puruṣa (consciousness) and Prakṛti (matter), and epistemology; Yoga provides the practical path for the cessation of mental fluctuations (citta-vṛtti-nirodha), the eightfold path (Aṣṭāṅga-yoga), and the attainment of liberation (mokṣa). The Sāṅkhya analysis of the relationship between the detached soul (Puruṣa) and mutable Prakṛti forms the foundation of Yoga meditation. Conversely, Yoga’s eightfold path translates Sāṅkhya’s theoretical insights into practical discipline, stabilizing and refining human consciousness. Both philosophies identify ignorance (avidyā) as the root cause of suffering and aim to dismantle the false identity constructed by the ego (ahaṅkāra) to realize the true nature of Puruṣa. However, while Sāṅkhya prioritizes the path of knowledge (jñāna-mārga), Yoga integrates knowledge, action, and practice. Sāṅkhya offers the theoretical framework for liberation, and Yoga provides the empirical means to achieve it. This interrelationship enriches not only classical philosophy but also modern research on human cognition, consciousness, behavior, and spiritual practice.
